From June 07 to 09, 2025, St Dominic Church, Miyar, was graced by the pastoral presence of Most Rev. Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of the Diocese of Udupi. This spiritually enriching occasion, coordinated by Parish Priest Rev. Fr (Dr) Canute Barboza, fostered unity and deepened devotion among the faithful. The parishioners welcomed the Bishop with reverence and heartfelt gratitude for his inspiring leadership.
The visit commenced with a solemn prayer service, followed by a moving visit to the parish cemetery, where the faithful gathered to offer prayers for the souls of the departed, affirming the Church's profound communion with the saints.
A highlight of the visit was Bishop Lobo’s catechetical session with the youth, especially those preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation. His guidance reflected his unwavering commitment to helping the younger generation understand and embrace their spiritual journey.
A significant moment came when the Bishop met with the Parish Finance Committee. In this interactive session, he shared wisdom on harmonizing spiritual leadership with sound parish administration. His insights served to strengthen the parish’s collective sense of responsibility and stewardship.
On Sunday, June 8, the high point of the visit was the solemn Eucharistic celebration, during which the Bishop administered the Sacrament of Confirmation to 36 catechized children. In his homily, Bishop Lobo emphasized the power of prayer and the need for a deeper relationship with God, inspiring the faithful to focus anew on their spiritual growth.
Throughout his visit, Bishop Lobo engaged with various parish associations, including the Sthree Sanghatan, Catholic Sabha, SVP, Secular Franciscan Order (SFO), conveners of the Pastoral Commissions offering them spiritual encouragement. He visit to the Pallotti Vikas to meet the Pallotine Fathers. In the afternoon, he met with the Altar Servers, the Girls' Sodality, Missionary Children, and ICYM, and YCS, appreciating their contributions to parish life.
A particularly touching aspect of the visit was the Bishop’s presence at a Basic Ecclesial Community (BEC) meeting, showcasing his commitment to nurturing faith at the grassroots level.
The visit concluded with the celebration of the Asha Nivas Convent, followed by meaningful spiritual conversations with the sisters. He also visited the sick and elderly parishioners, offering them comfort and prayers.
