Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, the Bishop of Udupi inaugurated and blessed the newly installed solar energy system and renovated the chemistry laboratory at Milagres College, Kallianpur on 27th June, 2020.

The Bishop led the prayer service and blessed the premises of the lab. After the blessing a short stage program was held at audio visual auditorium of Milagres College.

Most Rev. Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi Diocese; V. Rev. Lawrence C. D’Souza, Correspondent of Milagres College; Mr Vincent Alva, Principal of Milagres College; Mr Joseph Peter Fernandes, staff secretary; Mr Salvador Noronha, President, Alumni Association; Mrs Rekha Bhat, Staff coordinator and others were present on the dias.

Rev. Dr Lawrence C. D'Souza welcomed the gathering and said that the solar energy installation for the institution would also reduce financial burden. Earlier, the power bill would amount to about Rs 27,000 per month, but after the installation of the panel it is likely to produce excess energy and also help reduce the electricity expenses.

Most Rev. Dr Gerald Lobo in his address highlighted the benefits of using solar energy. "There are three advantages in solar energy: it saves money, renewable energy and is cost effective. Seven litres of water is used to produce one unit of power," he said.
He further said that the institution was practicing its teachings. "It is a model to others. We executed what we have taught to the students through this project. In this manner Milagres Institution takes a step forward. The institution is trying to provide the best education in all terms. A comprehensive lab will help with educational development. May God bless both the sponsors," he said. Quoting the words of the Pope he said, "A man should protect, preserve and promote the environment," and said that the solar panel installation was contributing towards nature.

The entire solar panel installation project is sponsored by an alumnus Stephen Cornell, in the name of his parents the late Mr Albert and late Mrs Cyprian Cornelio and the cost of panel is Rs 15 lac.
