The Catholic Sabha, Udupi Pradesh and John D'Silva Foundation, Mumbai jointly organized a Prathibha Puraskar (Felicitation to the outstanding talents) and Felicitation Function at ‘Anugraha’, Udupi Diocesan Pastoral centre Ambagilu, Santhekatte on 8th October 2023.

The Felicitation function was presided over by Most Rev. Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi. Rev. Fr Ferdinand Gonsalves, Spiritual Director, Catholic Sabha, Udupi Pradesh and Vicar General of Udupi Diocese, Mr John D'Silva, Chairman, John D'Silva Foundation, Mr Gerald Pinto, Mr Santhosh Cornelio and others were Present on the dais.

The program took off with a prayer dance performed by students. Most Rev. Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp.

The felicitation of students followed thereafter. Mrs & Mr John D’Silva along with the Bishop felicitated students who had scored highest marks in SSLC, state board.  One each srudent from each of the 5 deaneries of Udupi Diocese who had scored highest marks in CBSE X and PUC (Arts, Commerce and Science) were honoured with medal, certificate, cash prize and flowers. Their parents too were recognised during the function.

Three of the felicitated students expressed their gratitude towards the Catholic Sabha, Udupi Pradesh and John D’Silva Foundation. They said that they would keep up their efforts and achieve better results in their upcoming studies and profession.

On this occasion, Mr and Mrs. John D’Silva were honoured by the Bishop. In his message, Mr John D’Silva narrated the reason behind the establishment of John D’Silva Foundation and its contribution in promoting education among the Christian students of Udupi Diocese.

Most. Rev. Dr Gerald Isac Lobo addressed the gathering and thanked Mr. John D’Silva for his generosity and prayed for Divine Blessings on him and his family.  In his message the Bishop pointed out that while many students get distinction in SSLC and PUC, only a few students continue to perform well with a focussed single minded devotion to their studies and life.   He also expressed his disappointment that hardly a handful Catholic students clear NEET or any other competitive examinations. He asked the students to have dreams like the late President APJ Abdul Kalam and work hard to realise those dreams.
