Deacon Stephan Rodrigues, son of the late Mr Salvador Rodrigues and the late Mrs Zeeta Rodrigues from Jog Falls parish (Shimoga Diocese), was ordained a priest by Most Rev. Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo at St Anne Church, Thottam, on April 23rd, 2024.
The ordination ceremony took place in the presence of Msgr. Ferdinand Gonsalves, Vicar General of Udupi Diocese; V. Rev. Fr Ronald Serrao, Rector of St Joseph Seminary, Mangalore; V. Rev. Fr Roshan D’Souza, Chancellor of Udupi Diocese; Rev. Fr Denis D’Sa, PRO of Udupi Diocese and Parish Priest of St Anne Church, Thottam; relatives; friends; along with hundreds of devotees. More than 50 priests were present on the occasion.
During his homily, the bishop emphasized the status and responsibilities of a priest in the Church. He stated that a priest is chosen by God from among the people to serve them and lead them to Christ. He also highlighted the significance and challenges of the priestly ministry in the present world.
Later, the newly ordained priest concelebrated in the Holy Eucharist with the Bishop. Rev. Fr Stephen D'Souza, Former Director of Diocesan Biblical and Catechetical Centre, animated the Liturgy.
After the Mass, a short felicitation program was held in the church. Msgr. Ferdinand Gonsalves introduced the new priest, Rev. Fr Stephan, and wished him well on behalf of the Udupi Diocese, presenting him with a flower garland. Rev. Fr Denis D’Sa thanked all the fathers, parishioners, friends, and relatives. Rev. Fr Stephan Rodrigues proposed a vote of gratitude to Most Rev. Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Msgr. Ferdinand Gonsalves, V. Rev. Fr Ronald Serrao, Rev. Fr Denis D’Sa, the parishioners of Thottam, family members, friends, and all those who supported. Refreshments were provided to those who attended the liturgical celebration.
