The Family Commission of the Diocese of Udupi organized a unique half-day program for married couples of different faiths and walks of life on 01 October 2023 at the tranquil Diocesan Pastoral Centre 'Anugraha' in Kukkunje, Udupi.
Mr Leslie Arouza, the diocesan director for Family Commission in his introductory note explained the objectives of this unique program. His words set the tone for a day filled with love, learning and togetherness.
The program began with a soul-soothing verse from 'Bhavageethe' beautifully sung by Mrs. Mukta Srinivaas Bhat. This was followed by a mesmerizing Bharatanatyam performance by Vidhushi Suphalia Manpreet.
Mr. Alphonse D’costa, the former Secretary of the Diocesan Pastoral Council, extended a warm welcome to all.
The program was inaugurated by lighting the lamp by couples representing four religions along with Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo, the president of the Family Commission.
In his speech, Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo invited the couples to remember three essential practices in daily life: daily family prayer, family meals, and family communication. He honoured four extraordinary couples from diverse backgrounds for their exemplary married life.
Dr. Subramanya Bhat, Mrs Kulsum Abubakar, Mr. Karunakar Jain, and Mrs. Veronica Cornelio— the other speakers shared their insights on successful and contended family life.
Later the couples present were entertained with some exciting games and attractive prizes. The youth from Kallianpur deanery performed a scintillating dance.
A total of 38 married couples, representing 26 different communities, joined hands with the family commission in celebrating this day promoting unity and fostering understanding among the couples.
Every couple was given a memento each to keep this day to cherish the memory of this day. Mr. Leslie Arouza proposed the vote of thanks. The unique inter-religious couples’ day was concluded with a sumptuous lunch. It was a unique, rare and memorable program indeed!
