Education should play important role in the social development, said SP K Annamalai.

SP Annamalai was speaking after flagging off Students Rights Rally at the Mother of Sorrows Church campus, here during Karnataka Regional Convention that was organized by the state YCS/YSM on Tuesday October 20.

The knowledge gained in education should be utilized for betterment of society, added SP Annamalai. He also appreciated the youth who have arrived from all over Karnataka to witness the convention with regard to modern education. Youth can use their knowledge effectively to carve out better future for them and contribute for nation building, said SP Annamalai.

Udupi bishop Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bellary bishop Dr Henry D’Souza, YCS International director Fr Charles Menezes, Karnataka Region YCS/YSM director Fr Mari Joseph, Udupi diocesan PRO Fr Denis D’Sa, Udupi diocesan youth director Fr Edwin D’Souza, YCS/YSM National chaplain Fr Chetan Machado, Karnataka Region YCS/YSM president Hazel Martis were present during the stage programme.

Over 1,500 representatives of YCS/YSM partaken in the mega rally themed Rights of the Students which began from Mother of Sorrows Church campus to St Mary’s English School, Kannarpady, here.

After the huge rally for Students rights, the concluding programme held with the president ship of Most Rev Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo Bishop of Udupi diocese. In his address Bishop Gerald Issac Lobo said that the subject matter and aim of the convention will be to establish new society. That to be started from the YSM/YSM students right now with hard labour and should contribute to form new society without difficulty. Jesus has the dream to establish God’s kingdom. He further said that education means not only to get knowledge but also to establish new society with human values. We have opportunities to conquer human values. We should along with education concentrate for better human values. Whether we have faith in God then we will get God’s blessings.

Bishop congratulated all concerned for the successful convention and gave apology whether any mismanagement or discourage during the convention.

Earlier Most Rev Dr. Henry D’souza Bishop of Bellary and also Chairman of KRCBC – Youth Commission gave introduction speech and welcomed the gatherings. Sundershan Naik President of YSM Udupi district and Jovita Princy Quadros, Mangalore gave their opinion on education in modern era.

On the dais Rev Fr. Deepak K. J. Thomas BYD, Delhi, Rev Fr. Chetan Machado National YCS/YSM Chaplain, Rev Fr. Lawrence C. D’Souza Secretary of CESU, Udupi Diocese, Rev Fr. Denis D’Sa PRO of Udupi Diocese, Raymond D’Cunha of Minority Commission, New Delhi, Sr. Irene Tauro, Bangalore, Ida Gibba D’Souza ZP member, Alphonse D’Souza Secretary of Diocesan Pastoral council, Hazel Martis President YCS/YSM Karnataka Region, Rev Fr. Mari Joseph Director of Regional YCS/YSM, Priyanka Noronha President YCS Udupi District, officials and animators of YCS/YSM and others were present.

Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo and Bishop Henry D’Souza were felicitated. Meanwhile all the guests on the dais including officials and animators were felicitated during the occasion.

The appeal letter was read out by Hazel Martis and Fr. Mari Joseph handed appeal letter to Fr. Denis D,Sa to forward to state education Minister and all concerned in the absence of Vinay Kumar Sorake during the occasion.

Elson D’Souza Hirgan former ICYM diocesan President and others compered the programme. Rev Fr. Mari Joseph delivered vote of thanks. Rev Fr. Edwin D’Souza who master mind to organize first ever Regional convention also remembered by Fr. Mari Joseph and to be felicitated in his absence on the dais due to busy outcome.

The programme started with invocation dance by students of St. Francis Xaviers’ English School, Mudarangady. Around 1500 Youths were participated during the valedictory ceremony of Regional YSC/YSM convention at Udupi.
