It was a joyful and memorable event for the parishioners of St. Peter Church, Barkur when their shepherd, The Bishop of Udupi, Rt. Rev. Dr. Gerald Lobo visited them from 30th to 02nd of October, 2017. The Parish Priest and the parishioners extended a warm welcome to him on 30th evening. The preliminary rite in the Church was followed by visit to the cemetery.

The Bishop had a Catechism session for the Confirmation children. This was followed by his meetings with the Finance Committee members and Parish Pastoral Council members.

On 01st October Confirmation Mass was celebrated with great joy. A total of 27 students were administered the Sacrament of Confirmation. In his homily during the Mass, the Bishop preached on the importance of family life.

After the Mass, the Bishop had meetings with several groups, viz. Sthri Sangatan; Secular Franciscan Order; S.V.P.; 18 commissions Animators; SCC Core Committee members; Altar Boys; YCS; I.C.Y.M; Catholic Sabha and Coir Members. He attended the S.C.C. meeting in a ward.

On 02nd the Bishop celebrated Mass in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Convent, Barkur and interacted with the Sisters. He spent time with the Sick in the parish. He also addressed the school and High School children during their assembly. He concluded by summarizing the entire pastoral visit and left for Udupi around 2:00 p.m.
