September 25, 2015: The Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) members of St. Antony Church, Kuntalnagar, Udupi joined hands with their parishioners and planted the paddy saplings in the fields where more than 600 youth of the Diocese of Udupi had taken part in the first ever diocesan slush field sports “Yuve Mel Gadya Khel” on 6th September 2015.
Fr. Denis D’sa, Parish Priest of Kuntalnagar Church and Fr. Royson Fernandes, Director, ICYM Udupi Deanery motivated the youth and the parishioners by planting the saplings. Fr. Ronson, Parish Priest, Katpady and Mr. Wilfred Lewis, Animator, ICYM Udupi Deanery were also present. Around 25 youth and 70 parishioners took part in this novel initiative which also gave an exposure to the youth about the agriculture as well as the life and struggles of a farmer.
The produce of this field will be given to the owner of the field Mrs Shyamala Shetty, who generously permitted the youth to conduct the Slush field Sports Festival in her fields.
The planting of the saplings culminated with the traditional lunch which also gave the youth some idea about the nutritious food of the farmers and our forefathers.
